So I received an invite to join the Google Glass explorer program. I had a chance to try out a coworkers pair and they are quite impressive. I would love to do it but its a $1500 price tag. There are a lot of things I am weighing in this decision, but I turn to you now OPPO, What is your opinion? Should I or shouldnt I join the program?
Here is a picture of a beautiful Datsun 510 for your troubles

Step 1) go to local craigslist cars for sale section. Enter 1500 dollars as max limit.
Step 2) decide whether you would get more out of the glasses, than out of anything on that page.

$1500 isn't worth the utility of the device, so it all depends on how much value you place on looking like a douche and bragging.
Which means unless you spent tons of fashion or live in Silicon Valley / work in a tech firm where people will faun over you for owning them and place sacrifices at your feet as they worship you as some new deity... don't do it.

I got an invite and passed and that's saying something since I early adopt everything. It looks better with the new frames but I would wait for the retail product. Right now it doesn't last a whole day on a charge (less than half if you use it a lot), the app system is restrictive, and I have not read a single article that said "BUY IT NOW." But I have read a lot that said wait.

I've gotten two invites in the same account too. I see a lot of uses for the Google Glasses but so far I've found even more uses for $1500. No need to let the invite rush you to a decision, they are regularly found for the same price on EBay if not cheaper and so along with accessories.

I was also given the chance, but I figured why spend $1500 on that when you can get a GoPro and some leftover for car-related expenses.

the general rule with most new tech is to skip the first (and maybe the second) generation.
Unless you really want to show off :P

No, you should not spend $1500 to look like an asshole .

Haha i knew someone would say this. It is a good statement. I found a Miata... and we know what that means.

Its not so much that its new its about exploring this beta as it develops but I am usually one to wait.. hence why I dont have an XBone yet.

Yeah that is a valid point. although car related expenses are minimal now that I have something I can rely on, but you never know when something could go wrong

Sorry, too creepy. I don't need to be that connected and I find people who wear them in public to be socially retarded.

Reliable car? Let me change that to "car-related upgrades" such as modifications, track memberships, SCCA fees, and racing suit/gloves/shoes.

Haha, the "Dont look like an asshole" argument has always been present in this consideration, but honestly its a computer for your face, its new, and people dont understand it, and some may even just be jealous you have it and lash out passive aggressively. The article however does bring up good points, because like it or not, people are whiney little bitches about almost everything they dont have, understand or doesnt follow their idea of "life" And because of that there is probably very few places on earth that wearing them is acceptable anymore, especially with every new piece of bad PR. I dont want a 1500$ computer I can only use when I am home alone, I want to use it for what it can do, but if society has their panties so twisted that they can get past the fact of innovation then i guess I will just hold off until we as a collective being mature a bit.

You make a very good point here. One that has helped my decision the most. Thanks for you input. I am probably going to hold off at this point. Ill give my passcode out to a nerd who wants them.

Turbo something instead!

There's a good deal of Glass wearers here in the SV and people don't even flinch

I'm a huge nerd and like all kinds of gadgets. There's part of me that thinks Glass is super cool and amazing. But I generally prefer not to draw attention to myself when out in public. The only exception being my rad t-shirt and sneaker collection. But Glass tends to make the people around the Glass-wearer (glass-hole?) uncomfortable, which to me is more aggravation than it's worth.

I got nothing to turbo :( My car already has a turbo. I could buy something to turbo but then I wont have anything left over to pay for the turbo. life is a bitch.

I paid $400 for a tablet a year ago that I use primarily at work but some at home to read books, browse webz, and lite gaming. I use it a lot, but I'm still not totally comfortable with how much I spent.
Glass is on my list of fantasy wants, but it's at the very bottom of that list. It's too much money for something I can live without.
Go buy a Chromecast if you want some cheap nerd fun.

solution is to buy a bigger turbo for your car. . .
